Writing Short Stories

February 24, 2008 · No Comments

Writing short stories is so much of a challenge.  But I’m glad I did it.  I tried a different writing style that I like.  Removing writing tags seems to have been a success. And my writing seems to be so much more dynamic.

Something else that I learned as well that was fully unexpected; learning to not describe every specific detail to a reader.  Only give them hints and let the reader do the finishing details or complete the action for you.  Now that was cool.  My story seems to read so much more smoothly and faster.  And because it reads faster, I can put in a bit more narrative here and there without worry.

A couple of things I will need to add to my story is foreshadowing and also try to write those long-story suspense scenes just before the monster comes out. This is all so much fun.

This is all great for my novel.  But now I think I’ll need to rewrite those initial scenes on either my first edit, or before I put the draft away for a little vacation.
